Entertainment Low Down Feb 28/11

Monsters rejoice! Lady Gaga announced that there will be two versions of the “Born This Way” video. Gaga sat down with Oprah’s best friend, Gayle King to tell her the news. Gaga also confirmed that portions of the proceeds from the sale of the “stripped-down” version of the song will go to an anti-bully charity.

Jennifer Lopez is the latest celebrity to enlist her fans for help on her newest project. Lopez is dropping her video for “On the Floor” in less than a week and she’s letting her fans choose how the video will end. She said to Ryan Seacrest that she is letting the fans decided between two alternate endings. Lopez said,”You get to do what I do. Like, I go in there with my videos and I start editing and picking all the shots I like and the things that I like and what I feel the best kind of feeling for the record is. You guys get to do that. We picked two different ones and we weren’t sure.”

Kelsey Grammer’s brief stint as a single man is over. The 55-year-old actor married 29-year-old Kayte Walsh on Friday, just weeks after finalizing his divorce from ex-wife Camille. The couple tied the knot inside the Longacre Theater, which was still decorated with props from La Cage aux Folles, the Broadway play in which Kelsey starred. This marks Kelsey’s fourth marriage.

Charlie Sheen is continuing to talk to the media, the latest outlet being ABC, where he’ll appear on a special edition of 20/20 this Tuesday (March 1st). The taped sit down marked Charlie’s first television interview since CBS and Warner Bros. halted production of Two and a Half Men for the rest of the season. A preview of the interview, which was conducted by Andrea Canning at his home over the weekend, shows Sheen telling her, “I am on a drug. It’s called Charlie Sheen.”

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE

Disney’s 3-D animated Gnomeo & Juliet, a lighthearted version of the Shakespeare classic featuring garden gnomes as the star-crossed lovers, was the surprise top movie at the weekend box office, claiming the Number One spot in its third week of release.

 Opening in second place was the Farrelly brothers’ comedy Hall Pass, starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis as best buddies whose wives give them a one week “hall pass” to do whatever they want, no questions asked, but find it doesn’t turn out as they’d expected.

Last week’s top film, the Liam Neeson thriller Unknown, fell to third place.

Britney Spears is facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit for plagarism. Britney is accused of stealing the rock ballad “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me” by the Bellamy Brothers.
The American singers claim Britney’s song is too close to their own 1979 hit, which topped the charts in six countries — and The Daily Star reported that David and Howard Bellamy are set to meet with lawyers. David said, “Howard and I have no personal beef with Britney. She’s a talented gal. But professionally we feel completely ripped off. We will without doubt take the appropriate legal action if our attorneys agree we’ve been ripped off.” Britney’s team is staying quiet until her lawyers are alerted.

Lindsay Lohan has lined up a job. RadarOnline.com reports that the troubled starlet has committed to star in the upcoming drama, Escaping the Game. Although Lindsay is facing jail time if convicted of felony grand theft, producer Nathan Folks says he is optimistic that Lindsay will skirt the charge.

Paris Hilton may be getting married soon. The heiress and her boyfriend Cy Waits were spotted shopping for engagement rings in New York last week.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE

The Liam Neeson thriller Unknown opened at the top of the four-day holiday weekend box office, starring Neeson as a man who wakes up from a coma after an accident to discover that his wife claims she doesn’t know him and another man has taken his identity.  Gnomeo and Juliet placed second place.

Debuting in third place was the action movie I Am Number Four, starring Alex Pettyfer as a teenage alien refugee on Earth who develops superpowers to battle the invaders that destroyed his planet.

Last week’s top movie, the romantic comedy Just Go With It, fell to fourth place.
The comedy Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, the third movie in the Big Momma franchise, opened in fifth place. Martin Lawrence returns to his role as a federal agent who goes undercover as a large woman as he tries to catch a killer at an all-girls school.

Entertainment Low Down Feb 7/11

The family of Madonna’s adopted Malawian daughter, Mercy, is threatening to take legal action against the singer. The family claims that Madonna has broken her promise to let them see the girl. They say they were guaranteed regular contact with Mercy James, now five, when she was adopted from an orphanage in June 2009, however the Daily Mail reports that they have not seen her since.

Justin Bieber was everywhere this weekend! The pop star made appearances on Late Night with David Letterman, Saturday Night Live — and appeared in a Best Buy commercial during the Super Bowl.

The singer underwent a complete makeover for the Best Buy spot — looking years older with a beard and mustache while sporting a t-shirt of his likeness. When Ozzy Osbourne asked “What’s a Bieber,” Justin responded, “I don’t know. It kind of looks like a girl.”

On Letterman, Justin did a ‘Top 10 Reason It’s Great to Be Justin Bieber’ — complete with hair-flip. He also got behind the drums and joined his “idol” Paul Schafer for some tunes.

On SNL he stopped by for two segments. Bieber did a skit with host Dana Carvey, in which the comedian reprised his role of “Church Lady” and flirted with the Biebs. Bieber also did a digital short with Andy Samberg, in which the pair mocked The Roommate.

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is planning his post-Jersey Shore life. Even though the reality show is bigger than ever in its third season, The Situation isn’t planning on sticking around Seaside Heights. He told E! News that he plans to remain on the MTV hit for “another year or so” before solely focusing on a big screen career. In fact, he said, “Hopefully by the end of the year I’ll be in a movie.”
As for the future of Jersey Shore, he said, “It’s like Michael Jordan. There’s only so long you can keep winning them rings. There’s only so long you can rule the reality world.”

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE

The Roommate topped a slow box office weekend, taking in $15.6 million. The college thriller stars Leighton Meester as a freshman who becomes obsessed with her roommate, played by Minka Kelly.

James Cameron’s 3D underwater cave thriller Sanctum, debuted in second place with $9.2 million. Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher’s romantic comedy, No Strings Attached, Oscar front-runner The King’s Speech and The Green Hornet rounded out the top five.

Last week’s number one, The Rite, fell to sixth place with $5.6 million.

Charlie Sheen entered rehab on Saturday — a day later than originally reported. Charlie’s decision to enter rehab came after he was hospitalized last week on the heels of a reported cocaine-and-porn star-filled bender. Although his people blamed the hospitalization on a hernia, sources who partied with the actor last week have been forthcoming about the details of their experience with the star. Meanwhile, Two and a Half Men producers announced on Friday that they would suspend production while Charlie was getting treatment.

Bruno Mars plans to plead guilty to felony cocaine possession during his February 4th court appearance in Las Vegas. According to E! News, the “Grenade” singer struck a deal with prosecutors so he could avoid jail. Instead, he’ll be fined $2,000 and sentenced to a year of informal probation, 200 hours of community service and drug counseling. Bruno says this was his first time using drugs. His court dates comes just a week before Mars is expected to attend the Grammys where he’s up for seven awards.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez seem to be going strong. Although the teen stars haven’t confirmed they’re in a relationship, they were spotted together again — this time taking in a movie in Los Angeles. According to TMZ.com, Bieber and Gomez saw No Strings Attached over the weekend. When paparazzi caught them leaving the theater Bieber ingored all questions and instead plugged his upcoming movie by shouting Never Say Never. Speaking of Bieber’s dating life, the 16-year-old singer blasted rumors that he’s dating True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld. When asked about the Oscar nominee on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Bieber said that Steinfeld, who’s 14, is too young for him. Gomez, by the way, is 18.

The exorcism thriller The Rite debuted as this weekend’s top movie, taking over the Number One spot from No Strings Attached, which fell to second place. The Rite follows a skeptical seminary student studying exorcism at the Vatican who meets an unorthodox priest, played by Anthony Hopkins, who introduces the young man to the darker side of his fate.

The action film The Mechanic opened in third place. Jeff Chase stars in the film about an elite assassin who, when his mentor is murdered, sets out for revenge with his mentor’s son. The Green Hornet is also tied with the Mechanic in third place and The Kings Speech sits in fifth place with 11.1 million.

Oprah Winfrey is set to reveal a huge personal secret on her daytime talk show today. On Thursday she told viewers that she will have her own reunion on The Oprah Winfrey Show. She didn’t say with whom, but it involves something she’s learned about recently and is known to only a few people close to her. She says she’s known about this family secret for months and today you’re going to hear it from her.. many are speculating she has found her biological father while others claim it may be a half-sister who was given up for adoption.

Jason Mraz and singer-songwriter Tristan Prettyman got engaged last month, but when it comes to getting married, they’re waiting for something big to happen: gay marriage to become legal. Mraz says, “they can’t get married until [gay] marriage is legal and equal. I think giving people the right to marry will be a huge movement in civil rights.”

Taylor Swift has done some growing up in the last couple years. She developed a reputation for taking aim at her exes in songs, but these days things are different. Take, for example, Taylor’s current hit, “Back To December.” It’s Taylor’s I-did-you-wrong, please-forgive-me message to one of her exes — reportedly Taylor Lautner — whom she dumped.

Snooki is the latest celebrity death hoax victim. The internet was flooded over the weekend with false reports that the Jersey Shore star died of a massive drug overdose, but her Twitter denial is obvious proof that she’s alive.

In other news Owen Wilson and his girlfriend welcomed their first son in Hawaii AND Nicole Kidman is a mom again! The actress and husband Keith Urban revealed on Monday that they welcomed a daughter through a surrogate last month. The couple confirmed that Faith Margaret Kidman Urban was born on December 28th in Nashville.

Katy Perry has announced she’ll swing by the headquarters of Facebook in California tomorrow to make some sort of “special announcement.” The event will stream live on Facebook starting at 5:30. Perry will also perform at the Grammy Awards next month. Christina Aguilera is expected to sing the national anthem at Super Bowl XLV. According to GossipCop.com, a source says the singer will perform before the game in Dallas on February 6th. Carrie Underwood sang the national anthem at last year’s Super Bowl

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE..The 3-D superhero film The Green Hornet debuted in first place at the weekend box office, despite being panned by critics. Seth Rogen stars as a man who gives up his playboy ways to become a crimefighter, aided by his sidekick, Jay Chou. Chris Waltz and Cameron Diaz co-star.

The Ron Howard-directed comedy The Dilemma opened at Number Two, starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James. Vaughn plays a man who sees the wife of his best friend, played by James, with another man, and wrestles with whether or not he should tells his buddy.

Meanwhile last weekend’s top movie, True Grit, fell to third place, The Kings speech sits at fourth place while Black Swan is in fifth.
