WEEKEND BOX OFFICE
Disney’s 3-D animated Gnomeo & Juliet, a lighthearted version of the Shakespeare classic featuring garden gnomes as the star-crossed lovers, was the surprise top movie at the weekend box office, claiming the Number One spot in its third week of release.
Opening in second place was the Farrelly brothers’ comedy Hall Pass, starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis as best buddies whose wives give them a one week “hall pass” to do whatever they want, no questions asked, but find it doesn’t turn out as they’d expected.
Last week’s top film, the Liam Neeson thriller Unknown, fell to third place.
